Return to sender - what happens to the big canisters?

plastic drums for recycling

We get some of our products in large containers, which are made of plastic. What happens to them after we’ve decanted them into all our bottles here? Well, they ALL go back to the manufacturers for reuse. Farrington’s get reused with non-food grade products, Fill go back to get, well, filled; and Faith in Nature go back into their supply chain for reuse.

When we choose our suppliers, we always seek to ensure there is a solution. There’s some products we still haven’t got: in the case of liquids it’s because we haven’t found someone to give us the circle-closing solution we insist upon!

Dishwasher powder and laundry liquid... why they make sense

solving the problem of plastic laundry liquid bottles and those pesky plastic wrapped dishwasher tablets!

solving the problem of plastic laundry liquid bottles and those pesky plastic wrapped dishwasher tablets!

So we have a lovely customer to thank for the reasoning behind why it’s dishwasher powder but laundry liquid:

Laundry liquid normally comes in those plastic bottles which are, sadly, destined for the tip.

Dishwasher tablets are wrapped in plastic - completely unnecessary even if it is soluble: why do we want to put it into the water system! All a bit unnecessary.

As well as laundry liquid and dishwasher powder you can all refill hand wash, kitchen cleaner, all-purpose cleaner, toilet cleaner, bathroom cleaner, fabric conditioner. That’s a LOT of plastic saved!

And because these come from Finedon, when our big containers are empty they simply get swiched out for new, full ones.

(And they all smell fab, too!)

So, how does it actually work?

Weigh, fill and weigh again…

Weigh, fill and weigh again…

Thought it was a good time to explain how the scales actually work - and why we weigh household cleaners and shampoo too!

Basically, by weighing your container first, it means you don’t pay for it! Just like when you’re baking and zero the scales, that’s what our scales do too.

The biggest benefit of this? It means you can shop when you want and don’t have to decant what’s in your washing up liquid bottle (or any other container for that matter!) so you can refill. We realised that way you can fill when convenient, rather than having to wait for your bottles to be totally empty - which isn’t always the best time for going to refills.

And don’t forget - we’re always here to help.

Whilst you're in the neighbourhood...

We thought we’d share some of the brilliant things to do if you’re visiting us from outside Flore. There’s two amazing book stores nearby, one at Nether Heyford (Heyford Books), and one at Weedon in the old Depot (The Booksmith). Both are really well stocked and a great addition to a trip to refill! We certainly love second hand books, so thought we should share details! Both can be found on Facebook.
