Refills, zero waste, rural

Rural refills

A few people have asked us why Flore, why not in a town? Our answer in simple - we want refills to become normal. Rural refills mean that people are able to incorporate zero waste and refilling as a regular part of their daily lives. Before opening we said wouldn’t it be fantastic if kids in the village could pop in with containers: we’d always gone to the village shop as kids to get bits for busy cooks. And in week one that happened. Let’s say we were delighted!

Villages are typically underserved, but not under-inhabited and certainly not under-exposed in terms of global issues. Our rural refill plan sat in the place we hoped would be an addition to the community in which we live. When the shop became available, the one thing we heard from fellow Flore folk was that they hoped there’d be something ‘for the community’ that ended up here. So with that in mind we added coffee, cake, veg and daily fresh bread and the response has been fantastic.

So when people ask why in a village, the answer is definitely, ‘Why not?’
